F.R.O.G

1 Samuel 17: 45 Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.
Last month my church had a Vacation Bible School Day Camp for our kids. It was the first one in many, many, many years. The theme of the day was F.R.O.G. In case you don't know that stands for Fully Rely On God. F.R.O.G. I had the pleasure of teaching the adult class. We talked about Daniel in the lions den and the faith he had. We talked about Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego and the fiery furnance and the faith these 3 young men had. And we were going to talk about David and Goliath, but ran out of time. This is the story that caught my attention.
We have all heard the story. Big giant, little shepherd boy, rock and slingshot.
Boy shoots rock, giant falls dead. Hip hip Hooray, the giant is dead.
But did you know that the Israelite army was afraid of Goliath? Yep he was a giant with an attitude. Goliath had shouted and strutted and intimidated a whole army for 40 days! He was over 9 ft. tall. The armor he wore weighed over 125 lbs. The shaft of his spear was heavy and thick, tipped with an iron spear
head that weighed 15 lbs.So he had to have been big to have been able to wear all that. Big, bad Philistine champ.
Then here comes David. 1 Samuel says David was ruddy and wherewithal of a beautiful countenance. So he was a good looking young man. He was the youngest son of Jesse and a shepherd. His father sends him to take food to his older brothers who are in the Israelite army. And he hears Goliaths taunts. And he sees the army is afraid . And he doesn't understand why.
So David goes to Saul and says I will fight him.And Saul lets him go. David picks 5 smooth stones from the brook, puts them in his bag and goes to Goliath.
Well Big G. looks at David and just laughs. But David, little shepherd David tells Big G, "You come to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts". And we know the rest of the story. David defeats Goliath.
David was putting his trust in God. He knew with God all things were possible. To the other older men, Goliath looked to be an unbeatable foe. But David Fully Relied On God.
God gives us these stories to show us, to prove to us that we are not perfect. But to show us that He can use even the least likely, the least equipped person to do his will.

We need to rely on God. Fully Rely On God. Everyday. Everywhere. All the time. He will take care of all our needs, our worries and our cares. If we will let him.

Remember....everything with breath praise the Lord!!!!

Love,
Kathy
